The blood banana is a rare ornamental banana from Indonesia known for its red variegation on its leaves. Mature specimens can grown 6-8 feet tall and add a lush tropical look to any northern garden. Although these are not suitable to be winterized in a cold location, their smaller size makes them ideal for bringing indoors as a houseplant for winter.
Although this is an ornamental variety, the seeded bananas produced by this plant are edible.
